healmeal
About

A small team making a calorie app worth opening.

healmeal is built by Hachly, a two-person indie studio based in the UK. We make tools we wanted to use ourselves.

Who built it

healmeal is made by Hachly Limited, a small independent software studio. You can read more about the company at hachly.com. We are not a venture-backed wellness brand and we are not selling a diet. We are two people writing code on a kitchen table in London, and a dog who sits under it.

We ship a few apps every year. healmeal is the one we use most ourselves, which is probably why it keeps getting better.

Why we built it

Every calorie tracker we tried felt like data entry. Search a database. Pick the closest match. Type a portion. Then do that three more times for a single plate. After a week, most people quit.

We wanted a calorie app that respects the fact that you are already eating. Take a photo, get the calories, get on with your day. That is the whole pitch.

How it works in 2 minutes

Open healmeal, point your camera at a plate, and a vision model identifies the dish and estimates the portion. The macros land in your day with one tap. If the estimate is off, you can adjust the portion or swap the dish in seconds. You can also log by typing, by barcode, or from a saved meal.

The numbers start from USDA FoodData Central and restaurant-published nutrition, with AI-composed estimates flagged where they apply. Our methodology page explains where every figure comes from.
